Councillor Jane Prentice reminds Walter Taylor residents of Brisbane City Council's free immunisation clinics for children.
Cr Prentice said the free immunisation service offered by Brisbane City Council protects children against diseases such as measles, whooping cough, polio and tetanus.
"I want to remind the community that this is a great opportunity to protect your children against unwanted illness."
Cr Prentice said the chicken pox vaccine is free for 18-month-old children after 1 May 2004 and adolescents who turned 13 years old on or after 1 November 2005 who have no previous history of Varicella vaccination or chickenpox. The vaccine is provided at a subsidised cost to all other children.
Council also is offering whooping cough boosters to adults for $30 and free to children, Cr Prentice said.
"As a nation we have the second highest rate of whooping cough in the world, and closer to home, in Brisbane alone we had a 200 per cent increase in diagnosed cases between 2005-06".
In our local area, immunisation services are available every Wednesday between 9am and 11:15am at the Holy Family Church Hall located on Ward Street, Indooroopilly, Cr Prentice said.
