New CityCat timetable as 12th enters service

23 June, 2008

An extra 7290 passengers can now enjoy Brisbane\'s CityCats every working week - with the help of Brisbane\'s newest CityCat this morning.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said the $2.7 million Wilwinpa was timetabled to hit the Brisbane River for the first time at Apollo Rd at 6:15am.

\"This is another significant boost to Brisbane\'s popular ferry network,\" he said.

\"Wilwinpa adds another eight services a day - that\'s 45 services a week - for commuters who love this mode of transport.\"

Wilwinpa brings Brisbane\'s fleet size to 12 and is the second of three new CityCats to join the fleet this year.

Cr Newman said the CityCat service was increasingly popular, with over six million passengers expected this year.

\"Our fleet has grown by more than 60 per cent since 2003 and it will continue to grow through a major expansion,\" he said.

After the 13th CityCat is completed later this year, a further six vessels will be delivered over the term, bringing the fleet size to 19.

A further two or three ferry terminals will be constructed by the private sector, growing the terminal network to 18 or 19 stops.

Wilwinpa is a second generation CityCat holding 162 passengers and travels at a maximum speed of 25 knots.
